What is Ayurveda
The word Ayurveda translates to ‘The science of life’ and it is a beautiful system of living, which anyone can benefit from by integrating it into their lives.
Ayurveda is an intricate science of holistic healing which originated in India over 5000 years ago. It uses a mind and body approach to address any imbalances and maintain wellness. The beauty of Ayurveda is that it understands that everyone is unique, and therefore treatment plans are tailored very specifically to each individual.
According to Ayurveda there are 3 energies that govern the functions of our body and these energies are made up of the 5 elements. Vata dosha (air and space) pitta dosha (fire and water) and kapha dosha (water and earth). Each of these are responsible for the movement, transformation and stability which occurs within our bodies. Ayurveda believes that every person is made up of a unique balance of these energies, and that these make up your prakriti, or unique body constitution.
Ayurveda has a great emphasis on prevention of illness and recommends maintaining health through following daily and seasonal regimes to create balance.
Disease does not want to happen to us, nor does it happen quickly. Disease occurs when the relationship between our mind, body, and soul has become distorted and we are not living in sync with nature and her rhythms. Ayurveda empowers us by providing us with the tools to naturally bring ourselves back into a state of health and wellbeing.
Modern medicine teaches us that we can dull the symptoms of disease by opting for pharmaceutical medicines. These medicines will mask symptoms for a while, but they will never address the root cause of illness and so the disease will continue to manifest and resurface over time.
The great news is that our bodies have an innate ability to heal themselves as long as we work alongside the laws of nature and our own specific human nature. Using a wide variety of holistic actions and treatments to address the root causes of imbalance Ayurveda brings you back into alignment, feeling happy, healthy, and completely at home in your body and mind.
Ayurveda can assist with issues such as hormonal imbalances, skin issues, fatigue, digestive complaints, stress, as well as general wellbeing - just to name a few.
